What is the difference between parked, addon and subdomains?

An addon domain is a fully functional domain that can be created from your cPanel. Once it's created it will have it's own email, and it's own folder from within the public_html directory.

Addon domain URLs look like www.yourdomain.com Subdomain URLs look like your.domain.com, cat.domain.com, etc. domain.com the www is replaced with anything you want. Parked domains are a place holder site. You park it on top of another site and it becomes a single page of the site you park it on.


How can I transfer my domain to you?

1. If you wish to transfer your domain to us please do the following: 1. Go to http://www.axis4server.com/contact.html and make the request for domain transfer.

2. Once you have made the request one of our executives will contact you immediately to assist you with the domain transfer.

MUST READ BEFORE TRANSFERRING

There are two things that must be setup correctly on your domain or the transfer will fail. You must check these 2 things before trying to do a transfer.

1. You must check to make sure if the email on your domain is correct. Once you start the transfer, it is going to email this address asking for permission to move the domain. If the email listed isn't your email or doesn't work you can't respond to this email and thus the transfer will fail.

2. You must make sure the domain isn't locked. If it is locked, even if you agree to the transfer, the transfer will fail.
You can check both of the above by going to: http://www.domaintools.com. Once there, type your domain.com in the field labelled "Whois Lookup:" and click submit. Find where it says "Administrative Contact:" This is where your correct email must be listed.

Now scroll down to where it says "Status:" If the status says "locked," you must get this changed before doing the transfer.
To get the above changed you must contact the registrar you bought the domain from to do it for you. (Some let you make the changes yourself from their control panel)
Note: You can't transfer a domain unless it has been at the current registrar for at least 60 days. If your domain is expired you cannot transfer it until you first renew it with the current registrar.

What is an addon domain?

An addon domain is a fully functional domain that can be created from within your control panel. Think of it as having multiple hosting packages all sharing the same control panel. You can give them email addresses, forwarders, and more the same way you do for your main domain on the account.

The addon domain will exist inside the public_html directory of your account with the folder name you choose for it upon creation.


When will my domain start working?

It usually takes 24-48 hours for a domain to fully replicate changes, additions, or deletions across all name servers. For you to see the effects, however, all depends on your ISP. Updates my be within minutes for your neighbor, but may take up to a week for you or vice-versa. The reason for this is the name servers for your ISP update at different times. For various ISPs it is quite possible for DNS take a week or more to update.


How do I create email accounts?

To create an email account, login to your control panel and click Mail, then Add/Remove Email Accounts.

*NOTE: By default you have no email address setup. The main username may look like it is setup as an email, but if you wish to use it, you will need to add it as an email account.


What do I set my domains name servers to?

I'm not sure what my name servers are for my site. Please read your welcome e-mail. If you have lost your welcome email you can email support for your server's DNS information. Whatever name servers are listed in your welcome email will be the ones to use for all of the sites you choose to host out of your account. If you are a reseller client the name servers will be however you chose to set them up.


How can I setup webmail to go directly to Horde, SquirrelMail or RoundCube?

1. Login to the webmail program you prefer. You can get there by going to your-domain.com/webmail. You'll need to login using a username (which is the full email address) and password.

2. Once you have logged into webmail, click on the webmail program of your choice.

3. Copy the url in your address bar. It will look something like:

http://your-domain.com:2095/roundcube/index.php

http://your-domain.com:2095/horde/login.php (if you chose Horde)

http://your-domain.com:2095/3rdparty/squirrelmail/src/webmail.php (if you chose SquirrelMail)

4. Once you have the URL you'll be wanting to use, login to your cPanel.

5. In cPanel, setup a subdomain called something like myemail.your-domain.com (you can do this by clicking on the "subdomains" icon in cPanel). Do NOT use mail.your-domain.com as these particular subdomains are already in use on the server and attempting to use them as subdomains can result in conflicts.

6. After you've setup the subdomain in your cPanel, setup a "redirect" for the subdomain (by clicking on the "subdomains" icon). You will need to setup the redirect so the subdomain goes to the URL of the webmail program of your choice.

That's it!


Can I host friends?

Yes, you may host your friends. If you want your friends to have their own control panels for their sites, you'll need to get a reseller account.

Will you place your ads on my site?

Axis4server.com will NOT place ads on your site. That is one of the many advantages of having a paid host. We do have a default 404 page that can be replaced in a few seconds with your own that we recommend doing to help maximize your traffic. If you aren't sure how to do this open a ticket with us and we will be happy to do it for you. A 404 page is what loads when someone visits a page on your site that doesn't exist.
